Normal format:

where N is the number of nodes.
Format for VTK (structure grids):
x1 . . . xi . . . xNx y1 . . . yi . . . yNy z1 . . . zi . . . zNz
where Nx, Ny, and Nz are the number of nodes in x, y, and z directions.
